Orang Asli means the Original People
in Malaysian language. They lived in nomadic life stay in Taman Negara
and call themselves as BATEK. Witness and try their weapon (blow-pipe=sumpit)
for hunting and their simplest life style.
White
Water Rafting
While white water rafting is popular in many parts of the world ,
the rapids and cascades of Taman Negara are not that big and adventurous.
However , they are mostly safe for all ages and to 'shot' the rapids
does not take any special skill or equipment - just sit back in a
sampan and let the boatman do the work.
Trekking

Visitors to Taman Negara have only two options for moving about and
seeing things - by boat or on foot. Apart from river boating, trekking
is the most popular activity in the park. Trekking in Taman Negara
doesn't require any great skill, fitness or equipment unless overnight
treks are planned. There are walks of various durations, ranging from
an hour's to stroll to a nine day climb to the summit of Gunung Tahan.
Climbs like the latter should not be undertaken lightly as they require
fitness, preparation, equipment and good guiding. Most park visitors
will participate in treks of a few hours maximum and these can be
attempted by most fit people. The river offers a pleasant alternative
for those who can't or don't want to return from their destination
on foot.
Moutain
Climbing
Gunning Tahan, the highest peak on Peninsular Malaysia at 2,187 meters
(7173 feet), is located in the park but the climb does not require
specialized mountaineering or sports climbing equipment or preparation.
The trail between Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Keniam has a few limestone
rises that can be climbed. Along the trail at the north-east corner
of Batu Luas the trail links with the path from Kuala Keniam. Here,
at the base of a limestone cliff, there is a camp beside Sungai Luas.
The large cave, Daun Menari, is situated near the cliff base a little
distance away and there is a 30 minute walk along the base of the
outcrop. Here there are at least two climbs to the top of Batu Luas.
One starts a few hundred meters south of the campsite and the other
from just beyond the entrance to Gua Daun Menari.
